Add a labour code (mechanical library)
A labour code is a standard job with a code, a category, and book-time hours — “replace front brake pads”, “timing belt”, “clutch overhaul”. GM ships a mechanical library seeded for you, and you can add your own. On a quote or invoice, the code’s hours are multiplied by your labour rate to price the line.
Add a labour code
- Open Settings → Library and go to the Labour tab.
- Add a new item with kind Labour.
- Give it a short code (e.g. BRK-PAD-FR), a description, a category, and the standard hours.
- Save. The code is now searchable when you build a quote or invoice.
How the price is worked out
- By default: standard hours × your tenant labour rate (set in Settings → Business & Billing).
- You can override a code with a flat default price instead, if a job is priced as a fixed amount rather than by the hour.
- Change your labour rate later and every hours-based code reprices automatically on new documents.
Categories
Labour codes group under mechanical categories — Service & Maintenance, Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Engine, Cooling, Electrical, Drivetrain, Fuel & Exhaust, Air Conditioning, Diagnostics, and Tyres & Wheels. This keeps a long list navigable. The v1 library is mechanical only — bodyshop is deliberately out of scope.
The seeded codes are yours to edit freely. For the difference between a labour code and a part, see Parts vs labour items.
