Record an expense (OWNER)
GarageManager tracks your costs where they actually happen — on the parts you sell. Rather than a separate expense ledger, you record what a part costs you against the part itself, and GM carries that cost onto every job the part goes on. That is what turns revenue into profit you can see.
Record a part’s cost
- Open Settings → Library and find the part.
- Set its cost price — what you pay the supplier — alongside its sell price.
- Save. From now on, when that part is added to a quote or invoice, GM snapshots the cost onto the line.
Owner-only. Cost prices are visible and editable only to the Owner — they’re stripped from what other staff see, so your margins stay private. The Expenses and profit views are Owner-only too.
Why cost lives on the part
Because the cost is snapshotted onto each line at the moment it’s added, a later supplier price change doesn’t rewrite the profit on jobs you already did. Last month’s margin stays last month’s margin. It also means cost flows automatically — you cost the part once, not on every invoice.
Once parts carry costs, see the result in Tracking parts cost on invoices and the month-to-date profit widget.
